The Virginia Reiter Festival, conceived by director Giuseppe Bertolucci and dedicated to the work of female actors, will take place in Modena from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd September.

 

Friday September 20th

Beginning at 6:30pm, at Modena’s Teatro Storchi, Piazza della Pomposa and Via Sant’Eufemia, a reading of poems by Attilio Bertolucci and by his two sons Bernardo and Giuseppe. The event is organized in collaboration with Poesia Festival dell’Unione Terre di Castelli and Associazioni Teatrali Modenesi.

Beginning at 8:30pm the movie theatre Astra will host screenings of documentary films by and about the Bertolucci brothers, in collaboration with Cineteca di Bologna, Rome’s Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia and ARCI. The documentaries shown will be: Scarpette rosse, Ten Minutes Older and La via del petrolio by Bernardo Bertolucci, Evviva Giuseppe by Stefano Consiglio, Il Correggio Ritrovato by Giuseppe Bertolucci, and Quer pasticciaccio brutto de via Merulana, Luca Ronconi’s theatre piece whose television adaptation was directed by Giuseppe Bertolucci.

 

Saturday September 21st

Starting at 6:30pm, Modena’s Teatro delle Passioni will host a Lectio magistralis on the role of the actress by Maria Paiato, winner of 2019 Virginia Reiter Award for career achievement. The lecture will be followed by end of the year performances by pupils of the Accademia d’arte drammatica Silvio D’Amico.

 

Sunday September 22nd

Starting at 6pm at Modena’s Teatro delle Passioni, the three young finalists for the 2019 Virginia Reiter Award – Giulia Mazzarino, Marina Occhionero and Giulia Odetto – will meet the press and the jury members Rodolfo Di Giammarco, Gianfranco Capitta, Maria Grazia Gregori, Ennio Chiodi and Maurizio Porro to discuss the actor’s trade as seen through their eyes.

This will be followed at 9pm by the gala during which all three prizes will be awarded: the XV Virginia Reiter Award, the VII Giuseppe Bertolucci European Award and the Virginia Reiter Award for career achievement.
